Homeless

All matter, including every star and galaxie out there were created so that God would have a people. The sheer number of galaxies and planets tells us at the very least that our God is extravagantly and limitlessly creative. And God chose to have a people who would start out their existence on this planet the planet we call home.

What is Our Big Purpose?

To put it in a nut shell our mission as a church, and the mission of the church universal, is to be part of the enfolding of humanity into the love of God in Christ, and to live that love right here, right now with all that we have and all that we are.

There are two parts to this: A Commandment and a Commission.

Commandment

Jesus replied: " 'Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. This is the first and greatest commandment. 39 And the second is like it: 'Love your neighbor as yourself. All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments." ... Matthew 22:37-40

Jesus said that this principal of love and this practice of loving matters more than all other commandments, all other guidelines, all other high and noble themes. Everything else found in the Old Testament hangs on, is related to and lesser than this first principal.

Loving God and loving people is what happens when we apply and live out God’s Word. Faith and hope are extremely important things, but in the end love is what will remain eternally. So it’s clear that our ministry in the community is rooted and grounded in love. It has to be.

Commission

Jesus said: “Go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you” (Matt 28).

Jesus wants us to play an active part of the enfolding of humanity into the love of God in Christ. That means you and that means me, involved, but that does NOT mean you and me on our own. It means us together.

Considering the above, we believe that all people matter to God. This being true, what  is our community? Is it the neighborhood surrounding our church, or Fort McMurray? Is it northern Alberta or all of Canada? ...Or, is it the entire planet? The purpose of this page is to illustrate how members of our church are involved in various ministries. We probably have not listed them all. If we missed one, please Contact Us Form.

YWAM International

Youth With A Mission trains young people from all over the world for mission work. We are currently sponsoring a young lady in mission with YWAM and is currently working in Washington, DC. Check the On Mission page for some more information on her work. We have sent other young people to YWAM in Tyler, Texas

Alpha Ministries Canada

Our church was holding Alpha Courses back in 1996 before there even was a Canadian organization. The course has made a profound difference in our church and in the demographics of our congregation. We are designated by Alpha Ministries Canada as a resource church. We take that designation seriously and have often loaned our leaders to other churches to assist them in their courses. One of our couples are the Alpha Advisors for this region.

On Eagle's Wings Ecumenical Ministries

OEW is an ecumenical ministry that serves the church and individuals in remote and isolated areas of northern Canada. They own two airplanes to assist them in their work. Their pastor for northern Alberta and Saskatchewan is one of our clergy. In addition, one of our members sits on the board of directors of OEW.

Hope International Development Agency

Hope International is a Canadian, non-profit, international development agency, which is working in Africa, Asia, and the Americas. Hope International is involved in projects that empower people and communities in need. Several years ago, we chose this charity because of their extremely low overhead and their work in providing clean water to communities in Ethiopia. Many of our members contribute regularly to their work and one of our members assist in getting people out to the annual fund raising dinners in Fort McMurray.

The OSL is an ecumenical order that is dedicated to the Christian healing ministry. Members meet in local chapters and study scripture as it relates to healing ministry. Members often engage in healing prayer, often with the laying-on of hands. Some of our members have been or are directly involved with this ministry.

Anglican Renewal Ministries

ARM Canada believes that it is called to contribute towards spiritual renewal among Christians both personally and corporately and to be of service to the Anglican Church. ARM Canada believes that God is awakening the Church to the realities of the historic Pentecost through the gifts and ministries of the Holy Spirit as revealed in the New Testament and as experienced today in the worldwide movement of the Holy Spirit commonly described as ‘charismatic renewal.’ Our rector has been involved as an instructor in their Leadership Training Institute and is now on ARM's board of directors.

Anglican Essentials Canada

Anglican Essentials Canada offers support to Canadian Anglicans who wish to remain true to biblically-faithful, historically-authentic Anglicanism and who are concerned about the direction taken by their current church leadership. Considering our national church seems to be going in the wrong direction, some of us have consideedr it important to be members of this organization. We have also provided some financial support to Essentials.

Council of General Synod

"CoGS" is the governing body of the Anglican Church of Canada between general synods. One of our members is on CoGS. In addition, he is on their Resolutions Committee and the Planning Committee for General Synod 2010 in Halifax. His membership in these organizations gives us a voice in them.

Diocesan Executive Council

D.E.C. is the governing body of the Diocese of Athabasca between synods. We have a large representation in that body. Four of our members participate in that group. Our last Synod passed several controversial resolutions on which D.E.C. must act. The work of this group has become critical in th egrowth and path of the Anglican Church in Northern Alberta.
